A charming antique 19thc gilt bronze circular jewelry box. The lid mounted with a beautifully hand painted porcelain plaque of a young lady wearing a large feather plumed hat. Signed Wagner. The back of the plaque bearing an impressed mark of a crowned shield and initials CMHR within for the porcelain firm C.M. Hutschenreuther Hohenberg Bavaria, used circa 1865. This delightful portrait of a young lady is a rendering from a painting of Madame Molée-Reymond by Vigee Le Brun (the original portrait hangs in the Louvre). The lid is patterned with flowers and further embellished with reticulated filigree appliqués. Trimmed by a twisted bead and ribbon edged. The box decorated with sumptuous Rococo style floral garlands, ribbon bows and swags. Opening to reveal a green velvet lined interior. In overall good antique condition with general wear, patina and discoloration to the metal commensurate with age and use. The portrait is in good condition with no chips or cracks. The velvet lining is a recent replacement. Measures 4 1/4" diameter x 1 5/8" height.
