Lovely antique mid to late 19th century French sterling silver cup and saucer. Featuring elegant styling and decorated with intricate guilloche engraving. The motif includes an ornately patterned frieze border of scrolling foliage and stylized flowers. The cup further enhanced with a casted handle, with unique aesthetic form embellished with a neoclassical leave and ring detail. Embellished with an engraved oval cartouche medallion, monogrammed with interlaced initials, appears to be an X or opposing letters J centered by an L. Both saucer and cup are hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st titre mark designating a silver content of .950/1000, a higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling. Bearing maker's marks for silversmiths Jules Ladoucette & Pierre Gavard, active 1869 - 1886 at 17 rue de Phélippeaux, Paris. In overall good antique condition. The cup measures 2 5/8" height x 3 1/2" wide (including the handle) x 2 3/8" diameter opening. The saucer measures 5 3/8" diameter. Total silver weight is 189.6 grams.
