Antique French Napoleon III era Liquor Cabaret, Blackamoor Statue
Delightful antique French Napoleon III era whimsical table top cave à liqueur, liquor cabaret or caddy. Featuring a statue of a blackamoor merchant carrying a liquor service. Comprising of a barrel shaped decanter and six (6) petite glass mugs, all of old mouth blown clear glass enhanced with hand painted raised white enamel. The figure is hand painted and casted of spelter or white metal. The body with a brass sash with a framework holding the barrel in place. In his hands are two carrying caddies enhanced with a charming bamboo motif, with individual slots for the glass mugs. Stands on a brass plinth base. The liquor tantalus stands 5 3/4" total height x 5" width. The barrel is 5" long with the spigot and has a 1 7/8" diameter. Glasses measure 1" tall x 1 1/8" diameter opening.
In good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. The figure appears to have retained his original painted finish that shows wear from age. The barrel decanter has a spigot, however the handle is stuck in the opened position so primarily for display. Barrel is missing the little glass stopper or cork on top.
