Antique Victorian era English sterling silver and cut glass liquor whisky hip flask. The glass body is beautifully decorated with wheel cut fluted panels and intricate faceted shoulders. The solid silver mounts feature a hammered finish and comprise of a hinged bayonet twist and lock cap and removable drinking cup attached to the base. Enhanced with circular cartouches, the lid bearing a finely engraved emblem of what appears to be a liver bird for the City of Liverpool. Beautiful gilt vermeil / gold wash finish to the interior of the cup. In overall good condition. Some general wear commensurate with use. A couple of small dimples to the top of the lid on the cartouche. No chips or cracks to the exquisite cut glass. Measures 6" tall x 3" width. Hallmarked with the lion passant, leopard head for London and date letter for 1899. Maker's marks of initials TW for the firm of silversmith Thomas Whitehouse. Bearing a retailer's mark of J. H. Pontifex for Joseph How Pontifex of Buckingham Palace Road, London.
