Rare antique Art Nouveau era French sterling silver 4-piece tumble up set, bedside carafe or service de nuit. Stylish and functional, these hard to find "bonne nuit" tumble up sets are ideal for serving up a nighttime refreshment and lovely to display on a nightstand or dresser. Featuring sumptuous reticulated sterling silver mounts patterned with exquisite Art Nouveau iris flowers and trailing leaves, finely detailed and richly enhanced with gold vermeil finish. The set comprises of a carafe, tumbler glass, stoppered vial insert and tray or under plate. Embellished with engraved intaglios of irises and wheel cut fluting. Wheel cut starbursts decorate the base of the tumbler and tray. Retains the rare glass insert with stopper, ideal for adding a touch of flavored extract or liquor for a night cap. In overall good antique condition with general wear. There appears to be a repair to one of the silver irises on the tray. Surface scratches to the base of the tray. There are minuscule nicks to the floral motif on the tumbler. The sterling mounts are fully hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her indicating a silver content of .950/1000 silver (95% pure silver and a higher than .925 sterling). Maker's marks for Maillard frères & Vazou, active 1897 to 1903 at 113 rue de Turenne, Paris.
Dimensions: The entire piece assembled stands 7 1/2" tall. The carafe alone stands 5 7/8" tall x 4 1/2" wide. Tumbler measures 3 3/8" height x 2 3/4" diameter opening. The tray is 7" diameter.
