Fabulous antique Swiss Black Forest hand carved wood book rack, circa 1880-1910. The folding uprights are hinged and both decorated with a finely carved figure of a chamois or goat, the figure posed on a rocky base against a tree or foliage background. Exquisite artistry to this piece, a testament to the skilled hand of the carver. Beautiful detail and openwork, supplementary texture to the wood surface to mimic the look of knotty bark on the tree. A fine piece to display a collection of volumes or leather-bound books in your office or library, or your favorite cookbooks in the kitchen. The motif is perfect to incorporate into French country or farm house decor. In overall very good antique condition. Signed Geneve, for the city in Switzerland near the Alps. Measures 15" length x 6" width x 7" height, extends to a length of 21 1/2"
