Antique 19th century Black Forest hand carved wood holy water font or wall hanging benitier. Wonderful religious devotional wall plaque with beautiful detail and ornate decoration. Unique and impressive, the quality of the carving is outstanding. Featuring a cross above a water reservoir, decorated further with leaves and vines. Beautiful detail throughout, supplementary texture to the wood surface to mimic the look of knotty bark. The cross is surrounded by an intricately carved frame and openwork. Patterned with clusters of leaves, berries and curling tendrils on branches. The holy water font and frame is separately carved, backed with dark purple velvet and mounted on a wall plaque. In overall good antique condition. Some normal sighs of age to the velvet, and a small chips a few leaf tips. Unique and impressive piece, nicely sized for decorative display. Measures 12 7/8" x 9" wide
