Superb 19th century sarcophagus shaped jewelry box of ebonized wood mounted with opulent gilt bronze edging, ornate lock plate and four cabriole legs. Encasing plaques of rectangular form, decorated with parcel gilt borders on bleu celeste ground. Likely Sevres or Vieux Paris porcelain, each hand painted with scenes of courting couples in pastoral country settings and bow and arrow accoutrements of Cupid, allegorizing love, as well as instruments and flowers representing music and spring. Retains a working lock and key. Hinged lid opening to reveal tufted silk lined interior. In overall good antique condition. Measures (including feet) 8" x 6" x 5 5/8" height.
