Antique Art Nouveau .800 silver figural parasol handle, umbrella or dress cane handle. Featuring a stylized mythological figure, a beast or gargoyle, with an eagle's head and bat wing embellishments to the sides. In it's beak is a cluster of berries and leaves. Complete with glass eyes. Bearing hallmarks of 800 and maker's marks of initials FS, there is also another hallmark though difficult to decipher. Likely Austrian or German in origin. There is also the weevil hallmark. Silver items of a fineness minimum of .800 from French treaty countries were struck with this weevil in a rectangle hallmark. Treaty countries are those countries with which France had signed commercial customs treaties. Which suggests the parasol handle was once imported into France. In overall good antique condition with general wear, appears to have hardly been used. Housed in the original presentation box together with 8 spoke tips for a parasol. The handle measures 7 1/8" length x 2 3/4" wide x with a 1/2" diameter opening at the bottom. Weighs 25.2 grams. The box measures 8 1/2" x 4 3/8" x 1 1/8"
