A rare antique 19th century French Chinoiserie gilt bronze and hand painted porcelain figural inkstand. Centered by a finely modeled porcelain figure of a man in colorful robes and hat. Flanked by two inkwell pots hand painted in bright colors with flowers and butterflies, topped by gilt bronze covers and hinged lids. Mounted on a lacquered wood tray base enhanced with gilt bronze mounts, resting on three stylized foliage feet. The base is stamped APPAY PARIS. Appay was a luxury goods retailer in the late 19th to early 20th century located at 24 RUE DE LA PAIX, specializing in stationary novelties, gifts and elegant desk accessories. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with use. No chips or cracks to the porcelain. Some age related cracks to the wood base. Measures 8 5/8" length x 4 1/2" width and stands 4 5/8" total height.
