Art Deco French sterling silver and 18K yellow gold gem-set / jeweled compact mirror. Of rectangular outline with 18K yellow gold overlay mirrored façade decorated in elaborate engraved openwork. Accented by 26 rubies and 12 sapphire cabochons in various sizes. Offering a delightful and colorful arrangement of pinks and blues. The stones with ported backs, allowing light to pass freely through the stones, resulting in greater brilliance and vibrance. The sides of the compact having intricate guilloche engraving, flush hinge at the back. The front with a gold overlay clasp, channel-set with six fabulous square cut rubies. Opening to reveal a center well for powder with original powder screen. The interior with a hinged double-sided mirror, or flip-out / folding mirrors. Fully marked with French hallmarks. Including: marked behind the lid with the conjoined boar and eagle head. From 1829, items made of both gold and silver were stamped with a conjoined boar’s and eagle’s head, indicating a composition of 18K gold and silver of a minimum finesse of .800/1000. Also marked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Bearing a maker’s mark. In good to excellent vintage condition and complete with original protective cloth case. Measures 3 1/8" x 2 3/4" x 1/2" height.
