Antique French Palais Royal sewing necessaire. Early 19th century sarcophagus form sewing box is of burl walnut displaying rich, highly figured burl grain, the serpentine lid ornamented at the corners with gilt bronze appliqués detailing flower filled urns, the center with an gilt metal handle with elaborate roundels. The front with a round mother of pearl escutcheon and retains a working lock and key. Rests on four steel bun feet. Opening to reveal the lid interior glass mirror, chenille trimmed silk cushion and removable tray lined with velvet that holds an assortment of exquisitely decorated mother-of-pearl and gilt sewing tools in fitted niches. Including scissors, a thimble, awl, needle case, two snowflake thread winders and a perfume bottle. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Some lacks to the corners of the box. The thimble with hairline cracks to the pearl, a nick on the rim edge of the perfume bottle, the needle case with chips as shown.
