Early 20th century Swiss hand carved Black Forest figural lamp in the form of a traveling bear holding a lantern. The detailed figure shows a bear, standing on hind leg, holding a walking stick and a lantern for lighting the way. The lantern is suspended from his paw, the metal frame painted black and encasing four textured glass panels. The figure is of solid carved wood, exquisitely detailed and expertly worked with cross-hatching to resemble fur, lovely detailed paws and head. A wide open mouth set in a grin greets onlookers. Painted a vibrant red, with tongue exposed and white teeth bared. Finished with a pair of glass eyes, adding to the beauty and whimsical charm of this unique bear. Stands 13 3/8" tall x 9" width x 5 5/8" depth. In overall good antique to vintage condition with general wear commensurate with age and use, some black paint loss to the metal lantern. The lamp is electrified for Europe and we recommend professional rewiring for use in the US.
