Vintage mid-20th century French egg-shaped crystal trinket box featuring a clear, fluted crystal body designed by L. Seiler for Cristal de Sèvres. Crafted from heavy, high-clarity French lead crystal paired with detailed, gilded hardware. Rests on an ornate pineapple-leaf style gilded base and features a neoclassical scallop shell clasp along the central metal rim. Bearing the gold foil label for "Opaline, Cristal de Sèvres - Création L. Seiler". In overall good vintage condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. No chips or cracks. There is some wear to the gilding on the metal mounts as shown. Measures 6 1/8" length x 5" wide x 5 1/8" height.
L. Seiler was a French bronze, crystal, and opaline workshop located in Vincennes that produced pieces for Cristalleries de Sèvres during the mid-20th century. They created pieces using hand-blown opaline glass and molded cut crystal paired with gilt bronze, brass, or ormolu mounts. Pieces were designed in the neoclassical, Empire, and Hollywood Regency styles. The firm produced decorative items including trinket dishes, vanity jars, perfume bottles, vases, and lighters. Items are typically identified by a foil sticker rather than a direct signature on the glass. The firm closed sometime around the 1970s. Two artisans who worked for L.Seiler prior to its closing included Jacky Gruet, crystal cutter, and Frederic Heltzle, a bronze artist based in Toulouse.
