Antique French Baccarat crystal perfume box. Richly decorated on the lid, base and sides, with a cut pattern of diamonds and hobnail buttons. The pattern referred to as Diamants Pierreries, Pontarlier. The Pontarlier pattern is a top quality cut crystal production identified in the Baccarat 1916 catalogue. The box is framed by elegant bronze mounts, featuring a rosette escutcheon on the front, two loop-ring side handles, and a base resting on four ball feet. The hinged lid opens to reveal a removable caddy tray housing 6 matching bottles fitted with conical shaped hinged lids opening to original glass stoppers and having polished pontil bases. All six perfume bottles are completely empty of fragrance and contain no perfume or other liquid. They are being sold solely as antique collectible glass bottles. The stoppers are numbered to correspond to matching numbers on the bottle bases, indicating they are original. Remarkably, 5 of the 6 bottles still retain their original early Baccarat paper labels (which often times got lost, removed or washed away). From 1860, Baccarat began marking their pieces with a paper label and it wasn't until 1936 that the cristallerie introduced their permanent acid-etched logo. Dimensions: The box measures 6 3/8" length x 4 3/4" deep x 5" height. The bottles measure 3 1/8" height x 1 3/8" square. Condition: In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Lacking a key. There are some nicks hidden among the intricate cut pattern on the box. Regarding the bottles: one bottle has a chip to the corner base that perforates the glass, and another bottle has a clamshell-shaped chip on the corner (both detailed in the close-up pictures). The remaining four bottles and the box display beautifully.
