
Antique late 19th century French sterling silver and cut glass water pitcher or jug for lemonade, orange juice. The baluster form pitcher features a clear cut glass body decorated with spiral fluting. The applied pedestal foot base, neck and hinged lid is chased with rocailles. Lovely floral motifs at the duck-bill spout. Alternating C-scrolling to the handle. Opening to a gilt vermeil interior and retains a removable strainer with lattice grille. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. There is a flaw to the top of the handle, rubbing from opening of the lid, as shown in the pictures. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her denoting a silver content of .950/1000 (95% silver and higher than the standard .925 for sterling silver). Hallmarked with the boar head for .800/1000 silver on the handle ring. Bearing maker's mark for silversmith Alfred Hector, active 1881-1913, commenced trade at 25 rue Palestro, Paris. Stands 11 3/8" tall x 7 1/2" across from handle to spout x 5 1/8" wide. Holds 42 fl oz. Weighs 1562.9 grams.
