A lovely pair of antique French sterling silver & crystal footed centerpieces. The crystal is beautifully decorated with engraved intaglios of flowers and lily of the valley bells and acanthus. The center well finished with a deep 16-point wheel cut star. Finished with sterling silver gadroon patterned rims. Rests on a sterling pedestal base. The centerpieces measure 8 3/4" diameter x 2 3/4" height. Fully hallmarked on the rims and bases with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, in use from 1838, which guaranteed the finest quality silver of .950/1000 purity (95% pure silver and a higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling). Also bearing maker's marks for silversmith Paul Foucard, active from 1913 to 1919 at 48 rue Charlot in Paris. In overall good condition with general wear. No chips or cracks. Both have a small indention to the very bottom edge on the base, as shown.
