Antique French 5-piece gilt ormolu writing set. The set comprises of a calligraphy dip pen, ink blotter, ink eraser knife, wax seal and cut crystal inkwell. Crafted of gilt bronze or brass with Empire styling, each piece is embellished with finely detailed neoclassical appliques. The decor includes wreathes accented with charming ribbon bows, feathered wings and flaming torches. The ink blotter with applied figures depicting the goddess of love and beauty Venus (Aphrodite) opposite the figure of Cupid (Eros). The winged figure of Victoria (Nike), goddess of victory, adorns the eraser knife handle. The wax seal bearing an engraved monogram initials GE. The set is complete, housed in the original presentation box. In overall good condition, with the box showing some wear commensurate with age.
