Antique 19th century French silver vinaigrette locket pendant. Of rectangular form hand engraved with flourishes, rocailles and scalloped motifs. Opening to reveal a finely pierced and engraved grille decorated with flowers and leaves. Richly enhanced in gold vermeil finish. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. The pendant hangs 1 1/8" length x 3/4" wide x 1/8" thick. Hallmarked with the French head of the hare or rabbit. The hare head mark indicates a silver content of at least .800/1000 and was typically used on small items. The mark is a guarantee mark (poinçon de garantie) placed by the Bureau de Garantie de Paris and was in use from 1819-1838. Also bearing inventory marks of the bulldog in use from 1835 to 1838.
