
Antique Belle Epoque era French gilt bronze trinket box featuring a miniature portrait of a lady in a feather plumed hat. The gouache portrait is small rendering of Adelaide Labille Guiard's 1788 portrait of Louise-Elisabeth de France, the Duchess of Parma. Housed under glass and signed Hallais. The box is quatrefoil shaped with concave sides, intricately decorated with ornate details such as appliques of scrolling acanthus and flowers, on a textured ground, edged with twisted rope trim. The sides with flower and leaf appliques over a dotted textured surface. Hinged lid opens to reveal a burgundy velvet lined interior. Closes with a snap. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Measures 3 7/8" x 3 3/4" x 1 1/2".
