Antique 19th century French perfume caddy richly decorated with Gothic style metal fittings on beautiful burl wood veneer. The domed lid gives the box the appearance of a small treasure chest. Working lock and key. Opening to reveal a fitted interior housing two elegant Baccarat cylindrical shaped scent bottles with rounded knob stoppers, hand painted with gold stars and trim. Unsigned but undoubtedly early Baccarat glass bottles that predate the 1936 acid etched labels. The famed cristallerie used paper labels beginning in 1860 until 1936, which often got lost, worn or washed away. In overall good antique condition with general wear, including patina/discoloration to the metal mounts, all commensurate with age and use, a couple of nicks here or there to the edges on the wood veneer. No chips or cracks to the perfume bottles. Box measures 4 7/8" length x 3 5/8" width x 4 3/8" height. Bottles measure 3 1/8" height x 1 1/4" diameter.
