Art Deco French .800 silver and 18K gold compact mirror with matching lipstick case. Circa 1920's to 1930's. This gorgeous mixed metal compact features elegant styling and quality craftsmanship. Decorated with an engraved motif of cross hatching ribbon or lattice. Set with ruby cabochons. The hinged clasp also set with rubies. Opening to reveal a mirror and powder well.

Hallmarked behind the mirror with the conjoined boar and eagle head. From 1829, items made of both gold and silver were stamped with a conjoined boar’s and eagle’s head. The eagle's head hallmark is seen on French made items that are constructed of a minimum 18k/750 gold. Also stamped OR / Argent. The conjoined boar/eagle mark is also apparent on the side of the clasp. The inside of the powder well is hallmarked with the head of the wild boar. The wild boar mark indicates a silver content of .800/1000. The mark was typically used on small objects of at least 80% pure silver content, close to .925 sterling. Bearing a maker's mark, though difficult to decipher. Possibly for maker Kitzinger & Fres, active 1902 to 1911 at 27 rue de Paradis, Paris and subsequently 27 rue de Paradis, Paris.

Included is the matching gold and silver lipstick case, set with rubies. Still with the original red lipstick inside. The lipstick holder is hallmarked as well. The barrel of the lipstick holder is patterned with stripes, mounted with two square cut rubies, and is hallmarked with the wild boars head for .800/1000 silver. The inside of the lid is hallmarked as well, marked with the conjoined boar and eagle head indicating a mixed metal composition of 18K gold and .800 silver, a silversmith's mark and numbers 207.

Compact measures 3 1/8" square. Lipstick case measures 2" length x 5/8" square. The set is in overall good vintage condition with general wear, some scratches and marks from use and handling.
