Sold

Antique French Paul Milet for Sèvres porcelain trinket box, dresser jar or bonbonniere. Featuring beautiful mottled flambe glaze in shades of cobalt and turquoise and green. Mounted with gilt bronze trim. Topped by a finely detailed finial of a grape leaf cluster. In good antique condition. Measures 3 3/8" height x 4 5/8" wide. Marked with a rare early Paul Milet underglaze green mark with "Sevres", double L with fleur-de-lis within, used circa 1895. This mark has been authenticated by Mrs Florence Slitine, curator at the Sèvres National Museum, author of several books. This early mark was used by the young Paul Milet while his father, Optat was still alive, until after 1900 when his mark changed to PM Sevres. Optat Milet began his career as a modeler for Sèvres in 1862, and opened his own ceramics factory in 1866. His son Paul Jean Milet took over operations shortly before the turn of the century and ran the company until 1931.
