Antique French Limoges kiln-fired enamel on a copper plaque. Miniature portrait is an enameled work inspired after the painting titled Joan of Arc at the Coronation of Charles VII (Jeanne d’Arc au sacre du roi Charles VII), an 1854 French painting by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres hanging in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The scene commemorates Joan of Arc, depicted in her armor at the coronation of Charles VII of France in Reims Cathedral, victorious and looking up to heaven, which she felt had given France the victory. Exquisitely enameled in vibrant colors atop a dark red/brown background, beautifully detailed and embellished with gold gilt accents and halo. Enamelwork atop foil gives emphasis to the armor and helmet of Joan of Arc. The enamel plaque is housed within a wooden arched frame surrounded by an exquisite gilt bronze border. In good condition, no chips or cracks to the enamel plaque. Frame measures 12 1/8" x 8 1/8”. Portrait measures 6 1/8" x 2 3/4" (sight).
