Large antique 19th century hand carved wood Corpus Christi crucifix, monastery, chapel or church altar piece. Striking and beautiful, exhibiting such superb quality craftsmanship. The corpus sculpture is realistically rendered with a defined musculature and detailed features. Well defined hands and feet, emphasized with wooden nails.. The crown of thorns is also intricately carved and is removable. The crucifix is intricately carved from a single piece of wood, adorned with supplementary texture to the surface to resemble knotty bark. Entwined with thick vines, leaves and berries. Accompanied by the INRI plaque. Total length is 33 3/4", x 12 3/4" wide across. The finely carved corpus of Christ measures 12" length from hand to foot x 10 5/8" wide hand to hand.
