A beautiful large French cast bronze wall hanging. of a charming angel with long flowing curls, holding a large shell as a holy water stoup. Very fine details, the bronze with rich dark patination and gilded accents to her face, hands and feet. Signed on the back Dumaige 1838. This is a later casting after Henry Etienne Dumaige (1830-1888). In overall good condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Heavy piece, weighs 15 lbs alone. Measures 17 1/2" height x 10 5/8" width x 6 1/2" deep.

Henry Etienne Dumaige (French, March 30, 1830-March 31, 1888) studied sculpture under Jean Féuchère and Christophe Dumont. He exhibited his sculptures depicting groups, statues, and busts at the Salon from 1863-1886. He is most known for his statuettes of dancers and historical French figures. He sculpted a large number of busts, groups and statuettes in marble, plaster and bronze, including the statuettes of Desmoulins .
