Antique French .800 Silver Gilt Vermeil Sewing Embroidery Set, Necessaire Case

Antique Belle Epoque era French .800 silver and gilt vermeil sewing embroidery set, necessaire case. Circa 1900s. The set includes scissors, a needle case, thimble, stiletto, crochet hook, bodkin, and 2 thread winders. Each piece features a charming embossed decoration comprising of stylized acanthus leaves, roses and garlands. The needle case or etui is in the form of a quiver of arrows embossed with floral garlands and ribbon bows. The thimble features a woven or lattice motif to the top, bordered with rose garlands and cornucopias. Simply a delightful sewing set. Each piece is hallmarked with the French head of the wild boar, in use from 1838 to indicate a silver content of .800/1000. The mark was typically used on small objects of at least 80% pure silver content, close to .925 sterling. They also bear a maker’s mark for Janvier Quercia, active from 1899 at 176 rue St Martin in Paris. The tools are in very good condition with general wear commensurate with age and use.
