Antique 19th century trinket box featuring micromosaic panels of Roman landmarks. Likely a souvenir brought back from one's Grand Tour, which was the principally 17th to 19th century custom of a traditional trip through Europe, with Italy as a key destination. To the lid is a view of St Peter's square with the Vatican and Bernini's colonnade. The sides with three micromosaic cartouches depicting the Colosseum, Roman Forum and the Pantheon. Present on the reverse side is the word "Roma" in raised lettering. Stands on four ball feet and has ornate brass trimmings. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. There is some missing tesserae and an indention at the base of the foot located under the panel of the Roman Forum. Box measures 2 5/8" x 2 1/8" x 1 7/8" height.
