Antique French 18k gold mounted cherry amber cigarette or cheroot holder in the original leatherette case or etui. Beautiful rich cherry amber tapered mouth piece mounted with 18K yellow gold trim and decorated with an ornate 18K gold cartouche. Bearing the French 18K gold standard mark in a form of an eagle's head in use in France from 1838. The mark is overstruck by the goldsmith maker's mark as shown, the mark appears to be initials M.T. or H.T. Housed in what is likely the original leather fitted case, the interior lid with gold label reads "Or Contrôlé", which roughly translates as "assayed gold" or "inspected gold ". This indicates that the item inside was tested for its gold purity by a French assay office. In overall good antique condition. Wear to the case commensurate with age. Some teeth marks/scuffing to the end of mouth piece from use, however the interior appears to be clean inside free of smoking residue. The cigarette holder measures 3 9/16" length x 5/16" diameter opening aperture. Case measures 4 1/8" length x 1" wide.
