Extraordinary 14-piece antique French sterling silver and gilt vermeil ice cream / dessert service housed in the original box. The set comprises of two large servers and 12 matching spoons patterned in elegant neoclassical styling. The bowls feature finely engraved foliage enhanced with 18K gold gilt vermeil finish. The handles decorated with Louis XVI ribbon and reed motif, terminating to oval medallion cartouches monogrammed with engraved initials PB, accented with foliage and berries. Stylized acanthus decorates the backs of the service ends. Simply gorgeous! Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark used from 1838 to 1919, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% pure silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Silversmith marks for Olier & Caron, active from 1910-1936 at 39 rue de Turbigo, Paris. The set is complete and in overall good condition.
