Antique 19th Century glass loose wax seal intaglio. In a lovely periwinkle purple color. Depicting swaying reed or bulrush, with the inspirational strength motto in French 'Toujours Agité Jamais Abattu' / Constantly Agitated, But Never Fallen. Conveying the sentiment 'bend, but never break'. When the winds blow, be like the bulrush. Sway to and fro in the breeze, but never fall nor break. Part of a large collection of loose wax seal intaglios matrices I am listing separately. These type of intaglio seals would have originally been used in a multi wax seal etui set, wax seal wheel, or mounted as a ring, watch or chatelaine chain fob. Their charming images and mottos make them collectible in their own right. They are perfect to use in the making of trending wax seal jewelry and pendants in casted/stamped silver and gold. Measures 1/2" x 3/8". Condition: General wear commensurate with age and use, nicks to the edges and face as shown and a chip to the back.
