Stunning antique Art Nouveau French sterling silver and etched cameo glass liquor flask. Quite stunning. Featuring a cameo glass tapered body. Of the quality and style of Saint Louis, Daum Nancy and other noted cristalleries founded in Lorraine. Decorated with a berry and vine motif on a textured background. Having a vibrant coloration of rich cranberry red receding to clear. The motif comprises of small berries, among tendrils of vines and leaves, having some gilt painted accents. Signed to the base with a gilt script signature: Lorrain below the cross of Lorraine (Crox de Loraine). Mounted with a sterling silver lid and collar with detachable drinking cup at the base. The sterling mounts embellished with rocailles or scalloped design. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which guaranteed the finest quality French sterling silver of .950/1000 purity in use from 1838 (95% pure silver and a higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling). Bearing maker's marks for silversmith Henri Ofti, active 1890-1903, whose workshop was located at 8 rue Bisson, Paris. Together over a mark for the Anonymous Goldsmith's Society of Paris (Société Anonyme d'orfèvrerie de Paris), active in 1902, at 50 rue du Faubourg-du-Temple, Paris. Measures 5 7/8" length. In good condition with general wear. No chips or cracks to the lovely art glass body, wear to the gilt accents from use and handling. A couple of tiny dimples to the sterling knob lid and one or two small indention near the base of the sterling drinking cup. Lacking a stopper.
