Fabulous antique 19th century hand carved Black Forest jewelry box. Carved from solid wood to resemble a fallen log in the forest, surrounded by foliage. To the front is a charming and fully dimensional ‘animalier’ study of a bird, perhaps a pheasant or type of game bird. Beautiful carved detail throughout. With fine details to emphasize the feathers and supplementary texture to the wood surface to mimic the look of knotty old bark. Hidden in the wood is a lock (retains a working key). The hinged lid opening to reveal a red velvet lined interior. A lovely whimsical piece of exquisite artistry, a testament to the skilled hand of the carver. In overall good antique condition. Measures 9" length x 5" deep x 5" height.
