An incredible set of three hallmarked gold French hair combs housed in the original presentation box. The set comprises of a pair of matching hair combs with a larger comb topped with a serpentine edge. Decorated with gorgeous 18k yellow gold mounting featuring Louis XVI criss-cross ribbon and reed ornamentation on horn. Each is hallmarked with the French eagle standard in use after 1838, denoting a finesse of 18k gold. In good condition, the presentation box showing wear commensurate with age. The larger comb measures 3 3/4" length x 2" height, the smaller combs are 3 1/4" x 1 1/2" height. Box measures 6 1/8" x 5 1/8" x 1 3/4" tall. The presentation box is marked C. Clerc, 4 Place de l'Opéra in Paris for the Parisian jeweler Charles Rémy Clerc, founder of the brand known for their outstanding handmade watches. Originating in Geneva, Switzerland in 1874, the company operated in the Place de l'Opéra and Boulevard des Capucines (Convent of the Capuchins in the Place Vendome Boulevard), in addition to crafting watches, the firm also dealt in gems and jewelry.
