An antique French 18K yellow gold mounted hand carved shell cameo brooch pin. Depicting Aurora, the Goddess of Dawn, leading a procession through the clouds. Followed by Apollo, the Sun God, in his chariot. After Guido Reni's famous chariot scene fresco "L'Aurora" painted in 1641 in the garden house adjacent to the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi in Rome.. The cameo is exquisitely carved in relief with wonderful strong lines and crisp detail. A very well-carved example mounted in an ornate 18k yellow gold frame. Hallmarked with the French 18K gold standard mark in a form of an eagle's head in use in France from 1838. Bearing a maker's mark on the clasp. Having a trombone clasp setting and T-hinged pin. The cameo is in good condition.
