Antique French 18k yellow gold mounted hand carved shell cameo brooch / pin. Depicting the Greek goddess of the dawn Eos, also known as Aurora in Roman mythology. She is depicted riding her chariot led by two galloping horses. The cameo is exquisitely carved in relief with wonderful strong lines and crisp detail. A very well-carved example mounted in an ornate 18k yellow gold frame. Hallmarked with the French 18K gold standard mark in a form of an eagle's head in use in France from 1838. Bearing a maker's mark on the clasp. Having a C-shaped clasp setting and T-hinged pin. The cameo is in good condition. The gold mount having two slips at the seam visible in pictures 6 and 7. Brooch measures 2" x 1 1/2".
