Charming antique French kiln-fired enamel writer's set, early 19th century calligraphy set. Comprising of a dip pen, letter opener and wax seal all housed in the original presentation box. The set has enameled barrels or bodies to each of the 3 writer's tools. Decorated with clusters of colorful flowers on a Celeste turquoise blue ground, enhanced with gilt trim. The kiln-fired enamel work is lovely, typical of that which we find from artisans who worked in decorative arts in Bresse, Limoges and Sevres. Fitted with ornate gilt ormolu mounts and end caps, patterned with rocailles and stylized foliate. Blank matrix on the wax seal. The letter opener with opulent engraved work on the steel blade. The set is housed in the original leatherette etui or box, case, opening to reveal satin and velvet lining the fitted interior with two lidded compartments for additional nibs. The set is complete and in overall good antique condition with general wear. There are no chips or missing enamel on the writing implements. Some hair line fissures to the enamel from use. Some discoloration to the steel blade commensurate with age (pre-stainless steel). The box showing its age, it does not close complete and there is a latch missing to the front.
