
Antique 19th century French School charcoal drawing on paper. Academic study, student work, life drawing full length portrait of a muscular nude male, frontal view, in a standing pose with one knee resting on a prop, one arm is raised. Unsigned. Measures 23" x 17 7/8". Unframed. In overall good antique condition for age and type, rough deckle edge, there is a crease on the foot, a 7/8" tear to the left side and a small tear in the upraised hand. Drawing from live models was part of academic 19th-century art training, still to this day, as well as a way that artists typically made preparatory studies for paintings.
