Antique 19th century French enamel on copper portrait plaque. Depicting Christ as a child laying with the instruments of the Passion, cross, crown of thorns and nails. The scene is after an engraving by Nicolas Pierre Loir (1624-1679) titled "L'Enfant Jésus (avec les instruments de la Passion)". Exhibiting superb detail and vibrant bold colors, hand painted with gold halo and accents. The plaque is signed by the enamelist A. Peron (or perhaps A. Pernan) and dated 1882. Housed in an opulent carved gilt wood frame. Richly decorated, the frame is by a carved finial depicting a dove flying among the clouds, backed by a radiant halo. In overall very good antique condition. The wood frame shows some general wear and signs of age/shrinkage lines. Frame measures 9 1/4" x 8". Portrait (sight) measures 5" length x 3 5/8" wide.
