Antique French 17th/18th century Limoges enamel painting on an oval cambered copper plaque. Portraying a lovely scene of the Holy Mother, the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus in her lap in a tender embrace, their heads crowned with radiant halos. The portrait exhibits carefully rendered expressions with delicate features in beautiful colors bordered by scrolling foliate of raised white enamel, embellished in gold painted accents, on a dark red/brown background. Housed in a bronze frame with ribbon bow finial and twisted rope border. Loop ring for hanging display. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. There is a chip to the enamel at the bottom edge of the scene. The reverse side shows that the back tab is missing on the frame, as a result the plaque moves up and down in the frame. Frame measures 6 1/2" x 5 1/8" 1/2" deep. Copper plaque measures 5 1/4" x 4 5/8" .
