Antique French double miniature portrait snuff box. Early 1800s circular burlwood case featuring a gouache miniature portrait housed under convex glass framed with 14K yellow gold mount (acid tested). Believed to be a portrait of Charles Pierre François Augereau, duc de Castiglione, Marshal of the Empire who served during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. To the interior is a thin metal false bottom, when removed it reveals a hidden portrait under glass depicting a side profile of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the uniform of a colonel of the grenadiers à pied de la Garde Vieille. To either side are mementos, including the words 'Au Vainqueur d'Austerlitz', noting the 1805 Victory at Austerlitz. As well as a hair art mourning memento depicting a tomb with the words 'C'est tout ce qu'il me reste' (that's all I have left). In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Lifting of the portrait from the wood as shown, debris/dust under the glass. Measures 3 1/8" diameter x 7/8" height.
