Antique 19th century French figural inkstand in the form of a sailing boat crafted from mother of pearl and wood with gilt bronze or brass mounts. A Grand Tour souvenir featuring three large sails made from iridescent mother pearl half shells enhanced with 'rigging'. The wooden deck and hull is embellished with finely crafted mounts and encases a hinged cut glass inkwell. At the base is a pair of finely detailed dolphins or fish adorn the base and serve as a pen rest. A beautiful piece, perfect for a desk or office. In good antique condition with general wear. Measures 12 1/4" total height x 10 3/4" length. The inkwell is also in good condition overall with a couple of tiny flea-bites to the back corner as shown. Inkwell measures 1 3/4" tall x 1" square at the base.
