Antique 19th century French porcelain and gilt bronze inkwell. Charming Sevres style inkwell, square shaped with hinged knob lid that opens to reveal a porcelain insert liner. The inkwell features a rare 'fond violet' colored ground, a rich aubergine purple glaze. Richly decorated with ornate gilt bronze Empire style mounts with motifs comprising of classic ribbon bows and floral garland swags. Oval medallions adorn each side of the inkwell with beautiful female cameos in raised relief, each cameo is signed with the medalist's initials. Topping the lid is an intricate floral roundel. The inkwell is marked to the base with interlaced Ls. In overall good antique condition with general wear/signs of use. No chips or cracks. A few minor light surface scratches to the glaze. Measures 4 1/8" height x 3 1/8" square.
