Outstanding antique French gilt bronze figural wax seal, desk stamp. Circa 1900s. Featuring a charming motif of hazelnuts. Signed Frécourt. The matrix bearing a monogram of interlaced initials GD. Measures 3” tall. In overall good condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Fabulous collectible antique with signature indicating the French sculptor Maurice Frecourt (1890-1961). Maurice Frecourt was an in important artist during the art deco period specializing in Animalier sculpture. He was born in Charenton in 1890. A pupil of Charles Valton, Antonin Mercié and Jean Boucher at the Beaux-Arts. He became well known after his work was exhibited from 1920 at Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. His sculptures often included office accessories / bureau decor. His work has been compared to sculptures from Louis Carvin and Max Le Verrier.
