Exceptional antique French mother of pearl 3-piece desk set. Comprising of a bookmark, dip pen and letter opener. Each piece is carved from solid mother of pearl, the handle adorned with a fish! A charming motif, each fish is finely modeled and carved with lovely details to the scales and fins. Accented with red glass cabochon eyes. The dip pen is finished with a silver collar decorated with engine turned guilloche engraving. Hallmarked with the French control mark in the form of a crab in use from 1838, which guarantees a minimum fineness of .800/1000 silver and maximum of .950/1000 silver. Also bearing a maker's mark though slightly rubbed, appears to be for silversmith Alexandre Grandjean, active 1883-1908 at 20 Volta Street, Paris. An exquisite and unique writing / desk set. In overall very good antique condition. The letter opener measures 8 7/8" length x 1 1/4" wide. The dip pen is 7 1/8" length (sans nib). The bookmark measures 5 1/8" length. Housed in the original presentation fitted box, the box having a couple of blue ink marks to the interior lid. The box measures 10 1/4" x 4" wide.
