Antique French silver chatelaine enhanced in gilt vermeil finish and richly decorated with Louis XVI style ornamentation. The belt clip features a center oval medallion in raised relief allegorizing spring with gardening implements including a watering jug, garden rake, and flower filled basket surrounded by pomegranates and leaves. Framed with elegant piecework surmounted with roses and leaves. Two side chains flank the center segmented chain. Suspended from the side chains are finely detailed ornaments of kissing doves resting on cupid's quiver of arrows and bow, further embellished by a flaming torch at the bottom. The center chain with floral elements and ribbon bow, quiver of arrows and bow, suspending a wax seal fob bearing a matrix of interlaced initials CM in elegant script. Tests as silver. One set of hallmarks found on the bottom bail, marked with the French head of the wild boar for .800/1000 silver as well as a silvermith's mark. Measures 6 1/8" total length x 2" wide. The matrix on the wax seal measures 1/2" square. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use.
