Antique French .800 silver and mother of pearl writing set duo. Comprising of a bookmark or letter opener and a dip pen. Featuring exquisite carved mother of pearl handle and blade, embellished with engraved silver and gilt accented floral details. Finished with beautifully crafted .800 silver mounts. The handle on the book mark with scrolled foliage, florals and tipped with a scalloped sea shelldecoration. Monogrammed initials LA or AL. Intricate guilloche engraving adorns the silver collar on the dip pen. Housed in the original fitted presentation box. Both pieces are hallmarked with the French head of the wild boar, in use from 1838 to indicate a silver content of .800/1000. The mark was typically used on small objects of at least 80% pure silver content, close to .925 sterling. In overall good condition, general wear commensurate with use. Presentation box showing its age. Dip pen measures 6 1/4" without a pen nib. (The pen nib shown is not original, but I will include it for your use.) Book mark measures 5" length. Box is 7 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 1" height.
