Belle Epoque era French sterling silver mounted cut glass 4-piece tumble up set, bedside carafe service, or «service de nuit verre d'eau». Stylish and functional, these hard to find "bonne nuit" sets are ideal for serving a nighttime refreshment lovely to display on a nightstand or dresser in the master or guest bedroom.

This set comprising of a carafe, 'upside down' drinking glass tumbler (timbale), circular undertray and rare stoppered flask insert. Of quality cut glass with wheel cut fluting and engraved intaglios of neoclassical wreathes and ribbon bows. To the base of the tray and cup is a wheel cut starburst. Decorated with exquisite sterling silver mounts embellished in raised relief with a frieze of palmettes and scrolling foliage.

Retains the glass vial flask insert, with its original sterling capped stopper. This part is often missing from these old tumble-up sets, and is ideal for adding a touch of flavored extract, herbal tonic, or perhaps a 'jigger' of liquor for a night cap.

The sterling mounts are hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her indicating a silver content of .950/1000 silver (95% silver and a higher grade of finesse than .925 for sterling). Silversmith marks are for Henri Lapeyre, active 1895 to 1923 at 49 rue Meslay, Paris.

The entire piece stands 6 3/4" tall when assembled. The carafe alone stands 5 3/8" tall. Tumbler cup measures 3 1/2" height x 2 3/4" diameter opening. The tray is 6" diameter x 2" height.

In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with use and age. There is crack to the flask vial. There are a couple of dents to the sterling mount on the tumbler cup. Cloudiness and scratches present to the tray and carafe.
