Antique Belle Epoque era French sterling silver sugar tongs. Decorated in raised relief with Art Nouveau style thistle flowers and foliage. Enhanced in gilt vermeil finish. Terminating to fierce lion claw tips. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Bearing a maker’s mark for silversmiths Gabert & Conreau, active from 1901 to 1906 at 24 rue Beaubourg in Paris. Measures 4" length. Weighs 25.7g. In overall good antique condition with general wear to the vermeil commensurate with age and use.
