Antique French sterling silver and gold vermeil 3pc flatware cutlery service, baptism / christening gift set. By Henin & Cie in the pattern Grand Cru. The handles are richly decorated with Louis XVI rococo ornamentation. Featuring a charming motif representing the musical arts, comprising of trumpet horns with music score sheets and foliage. Embellished further with flowers and foliage. Each piece is fully hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark used from 1838, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% pure silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Bearing maker's marks for Henin & Cie, this mark was in use from 1875 to the early 1900's. The knife blade is hallmarked with the Minerve 2nd mark, indicating a silver content of .800/1000 silver and stamped for the retailer A. Foutaine in La Havre. The set is in overall very good condition with some light signs of use. Fork measures 5 1/2" length; Spoon is 5 1/2"; Knife is 6 1/2" length. Housed in the original fitted presentation box, measuring 8" length x 4 7/8" wide. The box showing wear commensurate with age and does not close flush.
